I’ve always wondered why caring wives had to hold their breath while their husbands took the first bite of the food they cooked. Now I know … I’ve just had a firsthand experience!
The goal of the caring wife is to please her husband. And one of the ways she could do so is by ensuring that the food he eats satisfies him. So she takes extra care to see to it that the food she serves him is delicious each and every time.
When she sets the table, she’s silently praying that her husband would enjoy the dish. As the man settles at the dining table and takes the first bite, she is watching him from the corner of her eyes, trying to notice a frown or a nod of approval.
If the man fails to show any of those signs, the wife would ask cautiously, “Darling did you like the food? It’s one of your favourites.”
In the brief seconds that it takes the man to deliver his verdict, the woman would freeze her breathe. If he gives her thumbs up, her spirit would soar to cloud nine. But….
I’d better not talk about what happens to the woman if her husband gives her thumbs down. You only need to be the woman in that situation to understand what a shattering experience it could be.
I found myself in exactly the same situation two weeks ago. We had just served the first of the five dishes we had told our readers [our own husbands, right?] that we would be offering them. And just like a caring wife, we waited patiently to see their reaction after taking the first bite.
Do you know how enraged a hungry man would be if he sat at the dinner table and discovered that the soup was salty or had too much pepper?
Well, that was the initial reaction of our readers to that first issue. I will spare you the angry comments passed by many of our highly esteemed readers by not reproducing them here.
But let me quickly say this about our husbands [I mean our highly esteemed readers]. They are the best husbands in the entire world! When they like your food, they don’t hold back their praises from you. Like they did when last week’s offering arrived on their breakfast table.
Well, the third issue in the series is in your hands. Go through it and pass your comments to us, good or bad. We want to hear from you. Our goal is to provide you with a source of quality information that will make you an all-round success.
